Do Science at Home STEAM Kits – Sleuth Kit

Anderson Public Library is one of only 15 libraries in the state selected to receive 75 “Do Science at Home” STEAM kits, thanks to a grant-funded project by the Kentucky Science Center and the Kentucky Department of Libraries and Archives to distribute to families with children entering 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th grades.

There are 25 of each of three different themes: Sleuth, Explore, and Create. One theme will be distributed at a time, approximately a week apart. In the interest of fairness, recipients will be decided by drawing names. Each Friday registration will open for one theme, with a form posted on the library website, and linked to from the library’s Facebook page. Entries will be collected until 8pm the following Monday. On Tuesday, 25 names will be drawn and winners will be notified that day. Winners will have until the end of business Saturday to pick up their kit.

Only one entry per family, and one kit (of the same theme) per family, as stipulated by the terms of the grant. These kits are intended for caregivers and children in grades 3 through 6 to do together, they are not intended for children to do alone. Each kit comes with materials and directions for approximately 3 activities, as well as a survey for the family to complete afterward.

The first kit to be distributed is the “Sleuth” kit, which has STEAM activities relating to the sciences of cryptography and forensics, including invisible ink, fingerprinting, and secret codes. If you would like to enter your family into the drawing to win one of these kits, please complete the form below:

*The entry deadline for the Sleuth kit has passed. Names will drawn and winners notified soon. Entries will be accepted for the next kit starting Friday.
