The Anderson Public Library is seeking an Adult Services Specialist to join us in our mission of Inspiring Curiosity; Fueling Imagination; Building Community.

Description:

The Adult Services Specialist is responsible for serving the adults of the community and ensuring a positive customer experience by engaging in conversation and providing reader’s advisory and reference assistance. The Adult Services Specialist will assist the Adult Services Manager in creating programs, connecting adults with books, and assisting patrons with library services. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Some knowledge of or ability to quickly learn and follow standard library procedures and ethics.
  • Experience with and desire to work with adults.
  • Knowledge of fiction and nonfiction for adults.
  • Must have working knowledge of current Microsoft Windows OS, Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel) and navigation of the Internet.

Essential Characteristics of the Successful Candidate:

  • Excellent customer service skills with both internal and external customers; acts with the customer in mind using information gained from interacting with and listening to the customers.
  • Ability to interact with adults with kindness, patience, and respect.
  • Ability to apply fundamental library procedures, methods, and techniques after orientation and training.
  • Excellent organizational skills; ability to prioritize and multitask.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Additional Information:

Minimum Education Required: High School Diploma, some college preferred

Hours: This is a part-time position (20 hours/week) that requires some flexibility, and will include occasional weekends and evenings. The typical schedule will be Mon-Fri 1pm-5pm with one weekend a month, though occasional adjustments will be required to accommodate staffing or programming needs.

Salary: $13.00/hour

Dress Code: Casual, jeans and sneakers allowed.
